DEBORAH BENTLEY
Statement
My fascination with silk began in the mid-90s when I started painting scarves as a hobby. Since then my interest in painting on silk has evolved and taken many gratifying turns, but none as great as the turn taken on a trip to New Mexico. Here I fell in with a wonderful group of silk artists. Their warm welcome, exceptional talents and generous willingness to share ideas and techniques along with the pure beauty of New Mexico all encouraged our move to Rio Rancho in 2014.
During the past decade I have traveled extensively with my husband. His photographs have become an influencing factor in my creations. From the skyscrapers of Manhattan … to a simple fishing boat in Patmos Greece… and now to the enthralling beauty of New Mexico, I'm intrigued by the bright colors and graceful lines that I see in landscapes, flowers, architecture and people.
Most recently started looking for ways to really make my paintings “sing” which has led to my latest technique which I call Color Pops.
Silk is the ideal medium for me. I find the luscious movement and blending of paint on silk exciting… the bold colors suit my personality. Each painting has a special “connection” for me that I hope all can enjoy.
